
The South African Small and Medium Enterprise Corporation (Sasmec) is a development wing of the South African Active Civil Society Organisations (saacso). www.saacso.org.za A national Organisation that has been actively involved in anti-xenophobia campaign nationally since 2007. Based on its extensive research programs and active participation in the small business entrepreneurs conflict resolutions between local and foreign nationals, Saacso resolved to form a small retailers development programme under the auspices of Sasmec, to mobilize and organise all small retailers nationally, especially spaza shop operators under one national body called Small Dealers Development Organisation (SDDO), to establish communication channels through which conflicts can be resolved and business interests synchronised pursuant to common development goals for mutual benefits.
The main objective of SDDO is to provide a high impact black economic revitalization vehicle in South Africa, to be a market conduit for Black industries and to establish a common self-regulatory framework to encourage a conducive and a cooperative working relationship between members.
To induce a necessary support to small and Medium black business sector, Sasmec intends to establish inter alia, inter-active multi-stakeholders mechanism comprised of key role players from government and the private sector.
